Praxair (Thailand) Co.,Ltd Community Engagement Coastal Erosion Protection Project at Ban Khun Samut Jeen, Samut Prakarn Province
November 08, 2013
Moo Ban Khun Samut Jeen is located at Laem Fah Pah Sub-District, Prasamut Jedi , Samut Prakarn Province. Over the past 40 years, this coastal village has been facing an environmental crisis, more than 3 km of land has been lost because of erosion. It’s challenging for the community to not be forced to move to other areas, but they can avoid further crisis and learn to live with the unpredictable power of nature.
On November 8, 2013, more than 60 Praxair volunteers made a merit offering dedicated to 4 Buddhist monks who stayed in the Buddhist monastery during the rainy season at Wat Khun Samut Tharawat, a community temple impacted by flooding and erosion, where its platform was lifted from the ground one meter in height. After the merit offering, all volunteers planted 1,000 young mangroves into the water about one meter deep to create a buffer zone to reduce the erosion along the coaslines; moreover, the volunteers donated educational aid, a sport apparatus, food and necessities to students and villagers.
It was a rainy day with stormy weather during the activities, yet all persevered without tiring.
